Trabajadores Agrícolas Unidos – NY, RWDSU/UFCW
Trabajadores Agrícolas Unidos – NY, RWDSU/UFCW is the campaign sponsored the RWDSU and UFCW and is a coalition of UFCW Local 888, Local 338 UFCW/RWDSU, UFCW District Local One. Our goal is to empower New York farmworkers to improve their lives by organizing a statewide union.
Fulfilling the Promise of the FLPA
In 2019, the State of New York enacted the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act (FLPA), which promised to extend the labor rights enjoyed by most New Yorkers to the state’s agricultural workers, including the right to organize a union.
TAU is committed to facilitating the full implementation of these new rights, so they are reality on farms.
A Better Life for New York Agricultural Workers
TAU is dedicated to empowering New York agricultural workers in building a better life through the following core principles:
Organizing
Empowering farmworkers to build organizing committees, develop farmworker leaders, win union recognition at farms and negotiate union contracts that are ratified by farmworkers at their farm.
Partnerships
Building partnerships with farmworker allies to increase workers’ awareness of their rights under FLPA, through direct worker outreach, trainings and messaging throughout the state.
FLPA Implementation
Full implementation and enforcement of the rights guaranteed under FLPA, including the right to organize a union through an effective and orderly process administered by Public Employment Relations Board (PERB).
Advocacy
Assisting farmworkers with non-collective bargaining issues through advocacy related to housing, health & safety, workers’ compensation, immigration and pandemic relief.
Building Partnerships for Progress
TAU seeks to build genuine partnerships with workers and allies who support TAU’s core principles. These collaborative efforts include acquiring additional foundation and governmental funding to support know-your-rights education, health & safety training and other education.
